Sam Fender has donated the entirety of his twenty-five thousand pound award winnings to the MVT, which works to protect the Britain's independent concert spaces.

He was given the prize on October 16 as his latest record his work was declared the top album of the past year.

He has chosen to give the cash to the MVT, in recognition of the essential function small stages fulfilled in his initial steps.

"I would not have achieved this success if it weren't for all the performances I played around the North East, and beyond, when I was just getting going," stated Fender. "These locations are legendary, but they are facing challenges."

Since the start of 2023, over 150 of these locations have ceased operations – about 16 percent of the entire UK sector.

Over the past year, top acts like Pulp, the group Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all backed the MVT in its efforts to keep the scene afloat, by applying a modest fee to their ticket costs, which supports local stages.

Sam Fender also took part, raising in excess of £100,000 on his 2024 arena tour to help 38 grassroots venues across England, Scotland, and Wales.

The donation assisted venues that were dealing with possible closure due to difficulties arising from flooding, blazes and family tragedies, as well as licensing issues, conflicts and neighbor objections.

Some locations obtained monetary aid in upgrading infrastructure and technical equipment that helped musicians and audiences.

"The concept that funds from shows in major spaces supports the local stages, where it begins for performers like me, is just logical," the star has stated.

He is far from the only musician to contribute his honor prize money to worthy causes.

In Pulp earned the trophy in the year 1996 for their album Different Class, frontman Jarvis Cocker announced that the group would donate their winnings to the charity War Child.

That year, rapper and singer she split her prize across a few organizations, including the children's charity and a Sickle Cell charity.

"And I donated a £1,000 to the center, to their gymnastics class, because I practiced gymnastics when I was a child and they needed better apparatus," the artist explained to a publication.

Two years ago, they contributed their prize money to the community center that developed their group, alongside other grassroots music organisations.

Also the 1994 recipients they donated their prize to a multiple sclerosis charity after a close contact was diagnosed the illness.

"Receiving the award was ample," said vocalist the singer. "The cash was the extra but we didn't require the extra, because we had the cake. So our victory impacted the lives of others."

Last week, the MVT announced it had protected several local spots in the South East, by bringing them into public stewardship.

The first in the city and the second in that location were purchased under the community ownership program, which is backed by a national body and enthusiasts who buy "ownership units" in the venues.
